Types of Braces

Lingual Braces or Hidden-Braces

Lingual braces are just like regular metal braces except they are attached to the back of the teeth and therefore totally invisible. They have been around for 25 years and the treatment-finished results that are obtained are the same as those with regular braces.

We have recently introduced a new type of lingual brace in our office. It is a self ligating lingual brace, the In-Ovation Lingual brace. We are privileged to be a beta test site for this phenomenal appliance. The advantages are that it takes less time to place the wires and there is almost no discomfort to the tongue and no blatant noticeable effect on speech. Teeth line up withing months of having the braces placed allowing patients to enjoy their smiles early in treatment while they wait for the bite to be corrected. We are proud to anounce that we are totally dedicated to the self ligation appliance both from the front as well as the back of the teeth.

Having braces doesn’t mean you have to have a “tin grin.” Our office also uses

lingual braces, which attach to the lingual side (tongue side) of your teeth. These appliances are well-suited for patients, who may worry about the aesthetic nature of regular metal braces.

Lingual braces are also custom-fit for your teeth and treatment plan. While the front of your teeth are fairly consistent, the back side of each tooth has its own distinctive shape. Thus, each bracket must be manufactured for each individual patient.

You can receive the dramatic results of orthodontic treatment without anyone knowing, as the braces are virtually invisible. Ask us if lingual braces are right for you.

Dr. Samuel has over 20 years of experience in the use of lingual braces, he is one of the pioneers and teaches this technique as well as lectures internationally on lingual braces. There are no orthodontists in the USA (and only a few worldwide) that directly place lingual braces on teeth and obtain board quality results.

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.

In-Ovation Brackets

The In-Ovation ceramic braces are like regular ceramic braces in that they are made of translucent (clear) material. The difference with regular ceramic braces is that they use the same self ligating concept as the metal In-Ovation braces. It is a revolutionary clear bracket that eliminates the need of using elastic ligatures that discolor or metal ligatures. It is revolutionary because it also incorporates the same principles of the self ligating brace of eliminating the restraining force of friction that slows tooth movement. Our office is proud to anounce that we now offer our patients this phenomenal bracket. We are a striclty self ligating office both from the front and back of the teeth in clear and metal braces.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawback to ceramic brackets are that they are more fragile, and the elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits.

Gold Braces

Gold braces are stainless steel braces coated with 24-karat gold and are popular with patients of all ages.
